Be still and know that I am God. Psalm 46:10
Originally from Lima, Peru, Carmen Camino moved to the United States in 1974. She attended Nova University in Florida where she earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in International Business.
Today, Carmen lives in New Mexico, which is home base for her ministry work as a Christian Bible teacher. Ever since she received Christ as her Lord and Savior in 1998 she has had a passion for learning the Word of God and sharing it with others. After graduating from the Calvary School of Ministry in 2002 in Albuquerque Carmen immersed herself in studying the Word of God. She divides her time between teaching the Bible in English at Calvary of Albuquerque for the Women @ Calvary, overseeing the PM Women’s Bible Study, and serving on the Women’s Ministry’s Steering Committee.
A bilingual teacher in English and Spanish, Carmen also travels to Peru and Mexico teaching the Bible and sharing the Word of God with women in a variety of different settings including conferences and seminars. She teaches women inmates in prison in Peru as well.
Carmen and her husband, Wilfred, have been married 16 years and have five children and eight grandchildren. In addition to pursuing her ministry, Carmen also helps her husband manage their drugstore.
Carmen’s personal testimony …
Before Carmen met Jesus Christ, she had a deep emptiness in her heart that nothing could fill. In her pursuit of happiness, she was constantly trying to fill her life with possessions, degrees, career, trips, and more. But none of those things satisfied her completely. Her life was still lonely and empty. And then one day Jesus came along and said, “Follow Me,” “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life…” and her life changed forever. Her testimony is proof of her unswerving commitment to teaching God’s truth that has been a source of inspiration for many.
I got saved 11 years ago. After a month into my salvation everything that could possibly go wrong went wrong. I lost my business, and my financial stability. I tried getting a job but no one would hire me. Since I had a Master’s degree in International Business, I was either over qualified, or not qualified at all for the jobs available.
Still struggling a year or so later God spoke to me through Psalm 46:10, “Be still and know that I am God.” And He repeated it over and over again in various ways. I turned the radio on and a song began: “Be still and know that He is God.” I went to a card store and a card almost jumped out at me, it said: “Be still and know that I am God.” I went to church that Sunday and the worship leader began to sing a solo, “Be still and know that He is God.” I went to church that Wednesday, and the pastor’s beginning prayer was, “Be still and know that I am God.” I realized then that God wanted me to trust Him, that He had a plan for my life, and that He would fulfill it. I didn’t need to fret or be anxious about anything.
One of the things that God gave me at salvation was a hunger and a thirst for His Word. I spent hours studying my Bible. I began a wonderful collection of Bible commentaries, dictionaries, and concordances. I couldn’t get enough of Him. I wanted to know Him more, love Him more, and serve Him better.
Three years later I attended the School of Ministry. During my mission trip with the School, God once again confirmed my future by whispering in my ear through a missionary, “Be still and know that I am God.”
Because I had been in the School of Ministry, the Women @ Calvary invited me to teach on a mission trip to Calvary Chapel Cuauhtemoc, Mexico. I didn’t even know how to prepare a teaching. But by God’s grace and the coaching of a wonderful teacher, I went to Mexico and gave my first teaching. God glorified Himself in that teaching.
In the meantime, God raised me to be the Women @ Calvary PM Bible Overseer. As an overseer, I was asked to give a short speech to encourage the leadership team. I knew God’s hand was in it because the speech was really good, and my delivery was very good as well. The Director called me on the phone the following day and said that she really believed I had the gift of teaching.
God opened the door for me to teach at the Women @ Calvary ABQ Bible Study. I have been teaching there for several years, and I love it. During the summer I travel to Mexico and Peru to teach at women’s conferences. It’s my delight to share the Word of God with women. God’s Word changes lives! It purifies! It comforts! It encourages! It exhorts!
Whenever I have doubts or am facing difficulties, whenever caution dictates one approach but faith another, I need to remember that God is still in control and can be trusted. He still speaks softly, “Be still and know that I am God.”
